Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will expand cooperation in the transport sector The agreement on this was reached during negotiations between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Emomali Rahmon. The President of Tajikistan was in Turkmenistan on a state visit on August 4-5, 2021.
Noting that the irreversibility of increasing cooperation in this area is dictated by the geographical location and proximity of the two countries, the President of Tajikistan expressed interest in restoring and increasing the volume of international cargo transportation by road and rail through the territory of friendly Turkmenistan. He also noted with satisfaction that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan have reached an agreement on the resumption of direct or transit flights using the airspace and territories of the two states, taking into account commercial interests.
In turn, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that it is advisable to instruct the responsible departments to study the issue of introducing simplifications for the land transportation of goods from Tajikistan through the territory of Turkmenistan for the most optimal use of routes.
The agreements reached were led by the signing of an agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of railway transport and an Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the transportation and transit of goods and passengers.
