The implementation of digital systems into international transportation became the focus of the training workshop.

Representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, the Agency “Turkmenavtoulaglary” and the “Turkmen-Logistics” Association took part in an online training seminar on the implementation of innovative e-TIR and e-CMR systems during transportation by road. The workshop was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, supplied by the Islamic Development Bank and the Economic Cooperation Organization, in order to raise awareness of the participants about the benefits of the e-CMR electronic consignment note. The seminar was also attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan.
The history, provisions and additions to the CMR Convention were included in the workshop program. The experts and representatives of the delegations who made a speech shared their experience related to the implementation of the electronic book (e – TIR) and the electronic consignment note (e-CMR), and presented reasonable conclusions that their implementation increases the speed, efficiency and competitiveness of the procedures as compared with its equivalent in hard copy. In this regard, it was emphasized that digitalization of document flow is especially relevant for countries that do not have access to the oceans.
 Digital transformation of processes in transport and logistics is one of the key directions of the national strategy aimed toward sustainable development of Turkmenistan and expanding regional cooperation. Measures taken in the country in this direction straightly promote initiatives of Turkmenistan to create a global partnership on sustainable transport. The Memorandum on Cooperation signed in October 2020 between Turkmenistan and UNCTD serves as the basis for the digitalization of trade and transport links within the framework of the implementation of global and regional strategies for sustainable development. The seminar which was held on April the 6th started to be the first amongst those scheduled by the organizers. Next training workshops shall take place on April the 14th and May the 18th.
